I own the 2008 edition of the Ultimate Bisquick Cookbook. I readily admit that's it's one of my favorites.
Bisquick is such a versatile product. It has been a pantry staple since 1931, when it was officially introduced to the public.
The baking mix came to be after a top General Mills sales executive (while on a business trip) complimented the dining car chef on his delicious biscuits. The chef explained that he always made up his own pre-mixed "batter", which consisted of flour, lard, salt and baking powder, on every trip. He kept it on ice, so he could make fresh biscuits whenever someone requested them. The rest… they say… is history.
Back to the cookbook… It get's rave reviews on Amazon.com. (I do A LOT of online shopping and am a faithful believer in product reviews.) The thing I like the most about this particular edition is the fact that 280 out of the 300 recipes featured were brand new, at the time of publication.
The 423 page cookbook is made up of yummy recipes in the following categories: breakfasts, casseroles, 30-minute dinners, healthy eating, impossible pies (remember those?), pizza and desserts.
It also includes over 100 colorful photos and all kinds of tips in regard to making the best biscuits, muffins and pancakes you've ever tasted.
I have a confession to make. I don't always use Bisquick when I'm making these recipes. I either use Jiffy baking mix or make my own. Both alternatives are somewhat cheaper and just as good.
What is your favorite Bisquick recipe? I'm partial to all of the impossible pies. How about you?
