“Make food out of stuff you buy at this certain store” actually might be a bit of an obnoxious idea if the store were anything other than Trader Joe's. One of the things I like best about Trader Joe's is that it a higher quality food store for people who aren't so precious about what they're eating. Or in other words, a store I can stand to be in without wanting to stick a nail in my eye.So the Trader Joe's cookbook is also nice in that it has the same sense of humor as Trader Joe's stores. That, coupled with some really interesting recipes “Hot Toddy Chicken and Sausage Salad for a Hot Summer Night both sound like something my midwestern alcoholic family would have come up with) makes for an interesting read. And also, I actually made some of the recipes as well!
This recipe book would be a good gift for a college student or maybe someone newly single who hasn't been doing much of the cooking and needs to start trying again. It does really help that the ingredients are from the same place, for me, one of the difficulties of any kind of recipe is being able to find the exact items (instead of the almost right items) for the recipe, which means I do a lot of substituting. This works out okay sometimes, but especially if some of the main ingredients are foods with which I haven't worked a lot, the result can be a little sketchy.
